I have always loved and been inspired by movies. As a child I remember being fascinated with the black and white hollywood films that would be on TV over weekend afternoons. In my teens I'd stay up until the early hours watching films on TV and video recording any I wanted to watch again. I loved the teen movies of the 1980's and my sister and I would watch "The Breakfast Club" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/?ref_=nv_sr_1, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/?ref_=nv_sr_1 and "The Outsiders" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086066/?ref_=nv_sr_1 obsessively over and over again trying to absorb every ounze of meaning - and also droolling over the male heart throb actors - Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Patric Swayze et al. I love vintage Hollywood movies, my favourite film star of that era being Marilyn Monroe. As a teen I collected 'Athena' posters and postcards of her. Athena was my favourite shop as a teen! I have several books about Marilyn also. My favourite film of hers is 'Some Like it Hot' because I remember laughing so much at it with my family when I first saw it aged 12.
I watched two films recently Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée 'Wild' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2305051/?ref_=nv_sr_2 starring Reese Witherspoon and 'Dallas Buyers Club' starring Matthew McConaughay. Both films have a similar theme of the main characters' lives being transformed by life circumstance and how they try to survive and come to terms with their new circumstances and are in some ways redeemed.
I was so inspired by 'Wild' that I have bought the book by Cheryl Strayed http://www.cherylstrayed.com/wild_108676.htm which the movie was based on. Cheryl walked over 1000 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail to find herself after the death of her mother and subsequent drug addiction and marriage break down. The book is based on her diary of that journey.
Dallas Buyer's Club tells the story of Ron Woodroof who's wayward lifestyle is stopped in its tracks when he is diagnoed with AIDS and given 30 days to live. He's taken on a new journey from desperate personal survival to helping other HIV/AIDS sufferers at any cost. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790636/
There are so many amazing and inspirational films. Which movies inspire you and why?
Have a great day and see you tomorrow.
